Whether it's the rounded corners of a smartphone, the color of a pill, or the marketing materials supporting such products, everything in today’s economy must appeal to consumers’ senses, which means that artistic content is playing an ever larger role in business. Unfortunately, many businesses are still operating on the original, outdated and dangerous file-sharing model, which assumes that everything on the Internet is free game, or the “I-hired-you-to-do-this-for-me” model, which assumes that the work of an independent contractor belongs to the hiring company.

If these scenarios sound familiar, this presentation is for you. Both artists and entrepreneurs will learn 5 tips for working within the law to add value to their businesses while avoiding distracting pitfalls. We’ll discuss the benefits of forming a business entity, how ownership of creative works is determined, types of intellectual property protection (trademarks, design patents, copyrights), online/digital rights, best practices for ensuring compliance with licensing terms, and how to address infringement.

We’ve packed a lot of information in this presentation, so drink a little extra caffeine and come with questions.
